Pioneer Center taps next superintendent

The Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities, better known as the Pioneer Center, has chosen its next superintendent.

On Friday, the board approved Leia Snyder as assistant superintendent. Snyder, who comes to Ross County from the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities, will spend several months training with current Superintendent Rick Marriott before taking the reins as superintendent later this year.

Snyder is scheduled to begin her job as assistant superintendent March 16.

A resident of Hillsboro, Snyder serves as quality assurance director for the Butler County board. Before that, she was an English and special education teacher in the Eastern Brown Local District and an investigative agent for the Southern Ohio Council of Governments.

Marriott announced in July his plans to retire after 35 years as superintendent.

In this week’s upcoming meeting news:

• The Ross County commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday in their office at the Ross County Courthouse, with the only item on the agenda being 9:15 a.m. employment interviews for an administrative assistant position. The commissioners’ office will be closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
• The Huntington Local Schools Board of Education will conduct a work session at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the board conference room. No action will be taken.
• The Waverly Village Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers. Agenda items include several fund transfers and a resolution authorizing the council to engage special counsel for Waverly.
• The City of Chillicothe Tree Commission will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday and the Parks and Recreation Board will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday, with both boards convening in the administrative conference room at 35 S. Paint St.
