The new McArthur Goodwill store had only been open for a few hours, but the parking lot was as packed as the shelves. The store, located on Route 93 inside the former Dollar General property, celebrated its grand opening on Monday. Along with more space and inventory than the previous Goodwill location on Main Street, the new store brought more jobs and the work training center, which is still in development. Keith Alcorn, CEO of Goodwill Industries of South Central Ohio, was on hand for the ribbon cutting and explained Goodwill focuses on the retail side and broader mission side. The mission — promoting the value of hard work and employment — culminates in a training center that employs local residents who are developmentally disabled. "It's a win-win," Alcorn told The Courier, noting Goodwill's partnership with the Vinton County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Store Manager Emily Coleman said she was excited for the grand opening and hopes the new location with more accessible parking will bring in more customers and donations. The Main Street location had just a few workers, but this store already has nine employees between the retail store and work training center, with more hiring expected in the coming weeks. As for donations, Coleman said the store accepts clothing, household items, furniture and some appliances depending on the quality. GWISCO, which operates eight Goodwills in eight counties, also accepts larger items like cars and boats. Items can get dropped off to the store and local residents can schedule a home pick-up, Coleman added. http://www.vintoncourier.com/news/mcarthur-goodwill-celebrates-new-location-s-grand-opening/article_cac7ca1a-cc3b-5193-9ce3-af87240ddf4c.html This article has been reproduced for educational purposes only and appeared in the Vinton County Courier.
