Norma Carter always has had a knack for sewing, but she never realized how creative she could be with a needle and thread until this week.
With a box of colored floss in front of her, Carter carefully stitched a design onto a piece of dark purple fabric Thursday, occasionally incorporating a shiny bead to give the piece a more three-dimensional look.
"I used to buy sewing kits, but I didn't think I could ever do something without a pattern," Carter said as she worked.
