Developmental disabilities levy doesn't mean new taxes

The Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities has a levy renewal on the March 6 ballot. This levy includes no additional taxes. The original levy was approved in 1987 and renewed every five years.

Over the past few years, the entire country has been in an economic recession. During this time of anemic job offerings and general malaise, all government entities have been victims of steadily declining government funding. DD has been on the list of fund reductions from the state. Unlike many government recipients of funding, our DD has decreased its budget annually. Overhead and general operating expenses have been lowered by selling buildings and by sharing expenses through partnerships with other counties. In other words, DD has done what politicians of all stripes rail about, making do with less and continuing to provide outstanding service.
