BDD approves sale of property

The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities voted on Wednesday to sell off some surplus property along state Route 45, which will allow a neighbor to expand the size of their lot.

The strip being sold is 20 feet wide by 100 feet long, which Superintendent Bill Devin said will be sold at or above the appraised fair market value with the proceeds to be used for residential services or supported living services. It is .04 of an acre.

Currently grass the CCBDD mows, the property is to the left of the blacktop between Sunoco gas station and the CCBDD Reach 4 More building which houses the employee development program for the clients.

At Wednesday’s meeting, Devin said he is not at liberty to say who the CCBDD will be selling the property to and the actual amount of the “fair market value” was not reported either.

Additionally, the board voted to sell obsolete equipment, deeming it no longer needed for public use. The equipment was bus 29, a Ford E-350 also known as van 15, a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, a 2006 Dodge Caravan and a 2005 Ford Taurus. The vehicles are reportedly valued at under $2,500 and will be sold in “as is” condition.

In other matters:

– The board recognized recently retired employees – Claudia Mercer, 35 years; Tod Raymond, 31 years; D.J. Vargo, 30 years; Terri Flint, 23 years and Paul Lake, 13 years. The board also honored Teresa Arbuckle, Dale Buchanan and Ashley Larson from Turning Point Residential Services for recently completing a 60-hour training program.

– The board created a part-time job developer position for the Reach 4 More Program and hired Garold Miller for the position at a rate of $500 per week.

– The board approved a contract with the Educational Service Center to provide LPN services for Robert Bycroft School this school year.

– The board approved a physicians contract with L. Austin Frederickson Jr., MD, at $150 per month for the next four years.

– The board approved sending Andrew Garber to the superintendent development class of 2019 training at a cost of $500.

– The board approved renewal of members in the Ohio Association of County Boards, a cost not to exceed $22,145. Devin said this was the first increase in 10 years.

– The Halloween dance will be held at the Robert Bycroft School from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 25.
