Caroline's Challenge raises funds for playground

A sizable donation was made Wednesday toward the inclusive playground at Memorial Park. CrossFit 1808 of Mount Vernon presented the Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities with a check of $10,930 for the project.

Like the name suggests, the playground will be accessible to children with and without disabilities.

The project got its start last year, after CrossFit’s first Caroline’s Classic fundraising event. Owners Katie Fiorilli, along with her husband, Nick, and brother-in-law, Vinnie Fiorilli, approached Knox County DD last year after they decided that’s where they wanted to donate their funds. Katie’s niece, Caroline, has Down syndrome, and she wanted to do something to help raise awareness.
