Stepping into the atrium of the Ohio Statehouse, Matt Lisa was very humbled and a little nervous. “I don’t get the opportunity to call my mom and tell her she can be proud of me at the age of 42 very often.”
Lisa is the General Manager of Red Robin Milford and was recognized as an Employer of the Year by the Ohio Governor’s Council on People with Disabilities. He was honored for his efforts in hiring people from the Community Employment Department of the Clermont County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCDD) this year.
Since arriving on the scene at the Milford location, Lisa has worked with CCDD to hire people with special needs whenever he possibly could. He doesn’t change any job in his restaurant because of the employee’s disability, but rather, assists the person to do the job and not think twice about his or her disability. His philosophy is simple—treat everyone as you would like to be treated.
Stephanie Garrett, vice chair of the Ohio Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities, presented the Employer of the Year Award to Lisa and to four other businesses from various locations around the state of Ohio.
“Under Matt’s leadership, the entire staff at Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews has concentrated on each person’s abilities,” said Garrett. “Every employee’s strength is utilized to be personally successful, while benefiting the Red Robin restaurant as a whole.”
The Governor’s Council on People with Disabilities serves as an advisory council for the Governor and General Assembly on statewide disability issues. The award ceremony is held annually. For more information, visit http://gcpd.ohio.gov/ or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
