In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be giving back to the community by creating two Little Free Libraries and holding book drives to fill these libraries.
A Little Free Library will be donated Friday to the Lima Family YMCA, 345 S. Elizabeth St. This library will be placed in the lobby of the Lima Family YMCA for use by its patrons and neighbors.
A second library will be placed at the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities, 2500 Ada Road. This library will be available to students and community members. The friends, neighbors and allies network at the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities will take a role in maintaining the libraries.
These two libraries will partner with Book ReViews in Bluffton to maintain a supply of books throughout the year.
The Little Free Library project was started in 2009 by Todd Bol. He built a model of a one-room schoolhouse as a tribute to his mother who was a teacher and loved to read. His community was inspired by Bol and others “take a book, leave a book” program. Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges.
