Starlight Enterprises, Inc. will be moving from the workshop facility on Commercial Avenue SW in New Philadelphia. The SEI Board of Directors made the decision after two mediation sessions failed to reverse or modify a June decision of the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities (TuscBDD) to have SEI leave the facility that has been the base of its services since 1979. SEI's request to rent space in the workshop as a service provider for adults with developmental disabilities was denied. SEI officials said they will continue to search for another location and continue to provide services of choice to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. While engaged in the mediation process in July and August, SEI visited 21 prospective relocation sites in the community. SEI's goal was to find a suitable location to move its entire production operations, if that became necessary, and continue offering employment and support services to the individuals who perform the assembly, packaging, and mailing services for SEI's many business partners around the community. None of those sites were found suitable for the specific needs of SEI's production services, for the people it serves, or was affordable to purchase, lease, or modify to meet SEI's needs. Consequently, SEI is in the process of finalizing arrangements to move to a new location that will enable only some of the production services to continue once SEI leaves the Workshop facility. The business customers who will be affected by the move of SEI are being notified that our last day of production will be Oct. 30, 2015. As per the TuscBDD directive, SEI will be completely moved out of TuscBDD facilities by the end of 2015. During the reduction of production operations at the workshop, SEI Cleaning services and other services offered to consumers will continue uninterrupted. Once the new SEI location is finalized and the move completed, SEI will introduce the new facility to the public and invite consumers and their families to consider SEI as a service provider. SEI will communicate this information immediately to the more than 150 individuals it currently serves. SEI officials said they look forward to moving its small non-profit business forward with the cooperation and support of local business partners and will seek new opportunities to expand as a local service provider for people with developmental disabilities. http://www.daily-jeff.com/local%20news/2015/09/03/starlight-enterprises-inc-will-be-moving-in-new-philadelphia This article has been reproduced for educational purposes only and appeared in the Daily Jeffersonian.
