Bridges to Transition

Kristen Helling joined the Ohio Association of County Boards in August 2011 as part of the Project Management Team for Bridges to Transition. She acts as Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisor and Technical Assistance Advisor for Coordinators across the state, representing more than 35 counties. Bridges to Transition is a partnership between County Boards of Developmental Disabilities, the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission (RSC) and OACB. The project provides career exploration and community employment options for transition-age youth.

Prior to joining OACB, Helling worked for the Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities as a Bridges to Transition Coordinator, where she launched a successful program. In her first year with Knox County Bridges, Helling assisted three individuals with community employment placements, and implemented creative employment options for several more, including supported self-employment and customized employment.

Helling holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism on the campus of Ohio University. She graduated in 1996 with minors in Spanish and Business Administration. She has worked for public television and radio as a public relations consultant and on-air talent, and in advertising for commercial television and print.
